One of the things that I do to stay informed and inspired about painting is spend time looking for the art of other artists on the web. One of my favorite sources of information has been www.art-milk.com. I don’t know how they do it but Art Milk consistently comments on art that I really dig. It has been a great thing to check out daily.

Today, I was SO psyched to learn that Art Milk did a feature about me on April 13, 2010. Their writer, Erin Loechner, found my work interesting enough to post about. Thanks Erin, it was a great to be mentioned on Art Milk.

Here is a link to the post and a screen shot: http://art-milk.com/ryan-cunningham/
The 50th anniversary dinner for the alumni of Oklahoma Art Education Association’s (OAEA) Young Talent in Oklahoma (YTIO) exhibition today. 41 alumni were honored from the 1000’s of artists who have participated in the 50 history of this juried art show.

The dinner was great fun. I enjoyed catching up with Martha McFarland Goetz, who, in addition to being a very successful internationally known artist, also is my former baby sitter and neighbor. It was also great to see Robin Orbach Starke.

The best part of the evening was when all the alumni were asked to speak for a moment about how YTIO affected their lives. It was very touching to hear how similar the experiences of my fellow artists were and how we feel that YTIO helped put us on the path to becoming professional artists in our adult life.

YTIO printed a beautiful book that featured our art. Here is a copy of the cover and the page that profiles me:

I delivered a painting for the Oklahoma Art Education Association’s (OAEA) Young Talent in Oklahoma (YTIO) exhibition today.

For 50 years the Oklahoma Art Education Association (OAEA) has been selecting high school age artists to show their art in Young Talent in Oklahoma (YTIO) exhibition. The juried exhibition honors the best art that high school students in the state of Oklahoma has created. As part of the 50th anniversary celebration the OAEA located alumni of the exhibition who have continued on to have a professional career in the arts.

In addition to being exhibited again with YTIO the alumni artists will be honored with a special dinner and have a chance to speak to the student artists about having a career in the arts.

Here is a link to what the OKC Gazette said when they wrote about the show:

http://www.okgazette.com/p/12855/a/3611/Default.aspx?ReturnUrl=LwBEAGUAZgBhAHUAbAB0AC4AYQBzAHAAeAAslashAHAAPQAxADIAOAAzADcA

I again served as art advisory chair for the board of the Integris Young Philanthropists. The Hear of the Arts party is planned and executed by the board. I donated a signed framed print that was auctioned at the event. The proceed from the sale of my print was donated to the Western Village Academy, now called the Stanley Hupfeld Acadamy.

Dr. Nikki Puffinbarger bought the print. Thanks Nikki for helping raise money for this very deserving school.

The Oklahoman’s legendary art critic, John Brandenburg wrote a great review of my exhibition at the Capitol that ran in today’s Sunday Oklahoman. I now can personally attest to how perceptive and complete Mr. Brandenburg is when he reviews a show. It is so clear how serious he takes his work and that he has a gift for experiencing and writing about art. Thank you for calling my show “recomended viewing.”

A link to the story can be found at: http://newsok.com/exhibits-2-series-contrast-old-modern/article/3439201?custom_click=lead_story_title

For general information about the run of the exhibition, please visit the Oklahoma Arts Council’s link on its website: http://arts.ok.gov/capitolart/eg.html.
